Astros flip Anthony Gose for Brett Wallace

Shortly after the Astros received Anthony Gose in the Roy Oswalt deal, they will be shipping him to Toronto for Brett Wallace. Wallace is regarded as the #2 prospect in the Blue Jays system according to many sites and he was ranked as the 27th best prospect according to Baseball America. Gose was not even ranked in the top 10 in the Phillies system. The Jays obviously see some major potential in Gose but was it really necessary to give up Brett Wallace who is essentially major league ready and power is one of his best assets? The Jays might project Gose as a lead-off man who can get on base and use his speed but Wallace projects to be a power hitter that could definitely hit towards the middle of the Astros order, thus making Wallace a more valuable asset. Gose doesn’t have an ideal SB success rate either as he is successful around 70% of the time. Im sure that if the Jays really wanted Gose, the Astros would have settled for something less than Wallace. So this doesn’t look good for Toronto on the surface. Meanwhile, Wallace should be able to help the Astros at either 3rd or 1st base in the future. If you thought that the Astros came out losers in the Oswalt trade, this little trade almost certainly has to make you re-think that.

Wallace for Oswalt straight up is a good deal for Houston. Add in a solid pitcher (Happ)and the better prospect (Villar), imo, of the original trade and Houston walks away looking good.
