New York Yankees interested in Andruw Jones

And I’m interested as well.*

*Who’d have thought there would have been two Andruw Jones posts in a week!

According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees are thinking about Andruw Jones.

I would love to see Andruw Jones in pinstripes. The Yankees need a right handed hitting outfielder for the bench. Jones fits that description. He was paid 500K in each of the past two seasons, so he should not be a expensive option. It seems like he would sign for the amount, or $1mil if we had to, because at least he would have another job, another chance.

His defense is not what it once was (historic) but it is not bad yet either. Considering he would be a fourth outfielder, he will only get 200-300 PA. His offense isn’t what it once was, but his BB rate the past couple seasons has been good, and he has legit power still- .200+ ISO the past two seasons. For a million dollars, I can see Jones providing the Yankees with around 250 PA, some defensive innings, and about 1 WAR. That might not seem essential, but the Yankees need another Marcus Thames and I think Jones could do even better job.

It appears the Yankees are also interested in Jeremy Bonderman. Please, no. Even if Andy doesn’t come back, I’d rather see our young prospects in the rotation.
