June 9, 2011

Hi all.

Wow, I am getting lazy when it comes to posting. Hopefully I didn’t lose my small cult following. Either way, I am opening this blog up. No longer just baseball. That might drive you away, or bring new readers in. For now though that’s going to be the way of the land, because it will motivate me to write. Daily life, my job, other sports, working out, etc, etc.

For now, here is a pic of an Amare Stoudamire walk. My friend says the play was cleaan- no travel. So I got freeze frames of the vid to prove him wrong.

RIP Gil McDougald and Leslie Nielsen

December 1, 2010

I know I’m late with the news, but former Yankee infielder Gil McDougald passed away, as well as funny-man Leslie Nielson.

Gil McDougald might be the most unappreciated Yankee of all-time. He posted a 3+ fWAR in nine of his ten career seasons, and had a 5.7 WAR/700. Had he not retired early at the age of 32, he arguably might have played long enough to be a worthy Hall of Famer. He played second, third, AND short and fielded each position superbly. It’s a shame it took his death for him to get any recognition at all from the baseball world. But he seemed like the type of man who wanted it that way.

As for Nielson, unless you lived in a cave you are aware of his cinema legacy. The Naked Gun is one of my favorite comedies of all-time and Airplane wasn’t so bad either. It’s a sad day/week for baseball and movie fans alike.

Happy Thanksgiving

Recently, you have been reading some posts titled “Clearing the Bases”. This is a series we are doing throughout the rest of winter. We will be doing a post on all thirty teams and the topic can be anything- past, present, or future- thus the title.

Also, we have added some fantastic writers. We added someone who goes by the handle “wisf” and you can read his work here. That post has actually been our biggest read in the blog’s history. So yeah, he is pretty good. Someone else we added, “10th batter”, has been helping with our thirty team post series and YC will continue his top 100 players of all-time list.

Continue to read and enjoy.

Upcoming schedule

November 18, 2009

Busy, busy, busy time of year. Here are some plans- if time is on our side.

– We have a young kid who wants to show off  his baseball smarts and challenge Bill James by creating a top 100 players of all-time list

– We plan on doing a series of posts concerning players who should be in the Hall of Fame- most of them will be probably be the obvious cases

– We plan on doing a post addressing each MLB franchise, whether it is something current or something historical within that franchise.

– We will try to follow the upcoming Hot Stove season

– We will get some B-ball related posts going with some articles by our brethren at WNR4HL (who are M.I.A. lately)

Stay tuned!

And remember- Wu Tung Clan ain’t nothin’ to fuck with.

More to come

August 14, 2009

Between posting at SS and the fact my computer had some problems, we’ve had a lack of posts lately. We will start posting more material shortly. Keep reading.

Four Posts Above Replacement Level no longer a Replacement Level blog!

August 4, 2009

This morning Zach Sanders of Stat Speak (that’s asked us to join their site as authors. Obviously, this is a great oppurtunity for us and we are thankful to Zach and Stat Speak for giving us this chance. At least we know there are some people out there who were reading (and hopefully/assumingly) enjoyed our work.

Unfortunately though, our time here on this blog will be limited. From time to time we can post something, but for the most part you can read our work at Stat Speak, along with the work of several other fantastic baseball minds.

In closing, I will leave you with an awkward and somewhat disturbing picture of Rick Ankiel, as a token of our appreciation.

Passing the time

July 29, 2009

It’s been a couple days since we’ve posted as we have been busy. To keep things active here, here’s a good story on the principles of Moneyball and Billy Beane. I personally thought it was a good read.
